Nominations are now open for the “Jeannette Hughes Accessibility Award,” which will be presented at this year’s Access Awareness Day on June 6th. The award is given to a person, business, or organization within the Town of Sidney whose work has improved the lives of people living with a disability.
The awards namesake, Jeannette Hughes, was a long-time Sidney Councillor, who worked tirelessly to improve accessibility for people with disabilities and raise awareness in the community. While on Council, Jeannette spearheaded Access Awareness Day in Sidney which was a big event under her leadership. After she left public office in 2011, Access Awareness Day dwindled until Town Council resurrected it last year.
